Do not feel up to writing anything of substance as in a new novel...hoping this will change.

Still no agent...no worries

No agent and no interest at this time in writing a sequel to book number eight. I was slumping it for months...no ambition to write...yes, I have Hashimoto's disease and it makes it hard to concentrate and hard to stay with anything that requires discipline but I will overcome and go on to write novel nine. I got it started any way. I am psyched!

Frustrated...

It is slow going this time through because I am busier and not shutting out the world and saying, "I HAVE GOT TO GET THIS DONE!" so...it is my own fault...I need to do that...SHUT OUT THE WORLD AND GET IT DONE! Phew, I feel better.

Another read through...

I am doing another read through out loud edit. After I am done I will send the manuscript to the interested agent. That is all I need to share today. THE END

Read out loud while editing...

Going through the book, reading it out loud...the agent told me that is what I should do. I am amazed at how many things I have noticed that I didn't when reading silently. It's fun too!

Kathy helps Liz...

When I was growing up I made up a game to play with my sister. She was "Kathy" when we played and I was "Liz." We made up a village and friends to talk about. I was constantly asking her to play, "Liz and Kathy."

I had a great weekend due to "Kathy" asking to read my book and having her e-mail me feedback on each chapter...it was like playing "Liz and Kathy" as grown ups.

Thanks, Kathy! I can't begin to put into words how wonderful it is to have a real sister who is also an imaginery friend. LOVE YA, SIS!

Mom called and shed light on my "telling" style

I received a call from my mother this morning and in the conversation she shed light on why I "tell" more than "show"...she and I have a way of talking about something and talking about it some more...we talk and then speculate about the talk and then talk about it some more...so of course that would come through when I set out to write fiction. "THANKS, MOM!"

Now...back to showing more telling less...LOVE YA, MOM! (she knows me)

Believing in self...

I went to the conference. I listened to people who have been in the writing business for years. I internalized their suggestions. I am back at it. I need to believe I can put the knowledge I gleaned to work to make my writing more marketable and reader attractive. I believe!

When is too much...too much?

So I took to heart all the suggestions, advice, criticism, blah blah blah...now I don't know if I have stripped down my work so that I don't recognize it. ho hum...fiddle dee dee, the writer's life for me.

Been a while...

Since I last blogged here I wrote my eighth novel. I am currently reworking it after attending The Santa Barbara Writers Conference, where I read the first four chapters out loud and received helpful suggestions to make it the best it can be.

Are we ever really done editing, revising, fiddling with our creations? I will say that I am having a wonderful time making "it the best it can be."

updates to come...

GOOD NEWS!

PRE-surgery on my thyroid I was in a funk, not able to concentrate on serious writing...well, post-surgery I am back...I am writing and editing and fully committed to writing.

Didn't know why I could not concentrate or want to bother writing anything in a serious way...but I have Hashimoto's disease and this has caused me to be hypothyroid and with that comes fuzziness, forgetfulness and lacking in energy...BUT I had part of my thyroid removed and am on meds for life...AND I want to write again. So here I go!

Got to get crackin'

I am a writer
I am a writer

Okay, so I am not going to write these four words 100 times or 1000 times, but maybe I should because lately it seems the only writing I am doing is on facebook or twitter or message boards...

I AM A WRITER!

There, I shouted it in keyboard!

The "X" Factor

"I hate when they use the 'X' in Christmas. They are trying to take 'Christ' out of Christmas." Jill curled her lips in self-righteous indignation.
"Ah, maybe they don't know what they're doing," Todd rolled his eyes at her intolerance.
And then a tattered looking gentleman holding a small mangy dog seated on the park bench next to the one they were sitting on perked up, " The "X" is the first letter in Xtos, which is Greek for Christ."
Jill got up and rushed away. She could not get past noticing his ripped sleeve. What does he know about anything, she thought.
"Hey, man," Todd said to the gentleman with the dog. "Can I buy you a cup of coffee or a beer?"
"A bowl of soup would be much appreciated, and a dog biscuit, if possible." The man's smile exposed black rotten teeth, but in his smile Todd witnessed the "X" factor.

Gonzo

My son needed someone to pet sit
I didn't think reptiles were my thing
But I can't get enough of Gonzo
He's green, he's hip, he's got zing
I love to watch him navigate
His branch and swimming pool
You might just say I'm fascinated
Chinese water dragons are cool

My Fancy Left Foot

My pretty toes
Are now exposed to the light
I usually cover them up
Because I am uptight
But my first pedicure
Made me want to come out
But only the left foot
The right foot has gout

I find it fun to write silly rhymes...:)

They are laughing at me, those mice. I set them free and they must run back in. I feed them Rice Chex slathered in peanut butter as bait inside the plastic mouse boxes that I capture them in and they look healthy, doggone it. I overcame my fear of mice, but in doing so I appear to have a mouse infested house. Soon they will cover the walls and the furniture and the house will smell like mouse pee and feces.
Yesterday a customer at the diner yelled out, "Your ceiling is peeing!" And sure enough there was water dripping, so I dashed for a clean wash tub to catch the drippage. The ceiling was peeing indeed.
Then on to the school where youngest son was about to perform in the big gym with his rock band for the annual Art Festival. Something was wrong with the speakers, but they adjusted them. There were other things going on in the gym. They started to play and everyone seemed into it, especially band mama, me...people clapped, but then a voice boomed from the other side of the gym, "Turn it down!" Ugh.

Ugliness comes in many forms...but then you forget about it when you look out the window and see Hume in Bloom.
